BUSY DAYS

It’s been a busy week at school – we’ve been discussing our families and making plenty of special gifts to take home to everyone… Our school frames are filled with familiar faces busy at play and our family wall filled with our loved ones…

Fun using up our old play dough…

Plenty of time for a quiet picnic, spraying, baking, pouring and mixing…

Our special letters ready to be posted…

Plenty of art…

Painting ice blocks to cool down…

…and painting the school together!

BUSY DAYS

GETTING TO KNOW EACH OTHER

As we are still early into the year our priorities have been getting to know each other and our new environment… Our aims have been to inspire the children to investigate, experiment and engage…There have been plenty of questions and answers as the children have started their journey of self discovery this year through play…

Our theme has been “our home”. As many of the children are new I’ve let them lead the discussion as we’ve gotten to know each other – chatting at the outdoor kitchen, building and creating together and just taking a look around getting comfortable with their space…The most exciting part of our week was to construct the 3 little pigs houses together. The children played with this the whole week and I often found them “building a house of bricks” (blocks outside)…There has been a lot of dramatic play, teacher led singing and creative singing “open mic”!

This week we have explored scissors & cutting, chalks, painting with tempura & acrylic, glueing and water colours.

GETTING TO KNOW EACH OTHER

BACK TO SCHOOL

After a long holiday we are slowly getting back into the new term! The past 2 days have all been about getting to know each other, keeping cool and having fun… The children have spent time getting accustomed to their new school environment, teachers and new friends…

Most of the time has been spent in the cool garden enjoying water play and getting to know each other…

The children have had a great time chatting around the creek bed, filling it with water and watching it flow down the river…

Lots of loose parts to explore!

Treasure boxes and baskets to discover…

Free art and clay activities…

And our picture and family wall ready to fill…

I’m feeling very excited for a great year filled with plenty of play!

BACK TO SCHOOL

END OF YEAR!

Wow…I can’t believe tomorrow is our last day of the year…This last term has flown by so fast…

The past weeks have been so busy with concerts and parties – the excitement levels at school have been interesting to observe! So tomorrow a bittersweet day… Saying goodbye to some of our little ones and see you next year to others…

Some gifts I’ve made the children for tomorrow…

Each child has a stationery bag with pockets to carry around all their creative holiday essentials! (chalk board and chalk, book, glue, scissors, pens and pencil, sharpener and eraser, crayons, pencil crayons & stickers).

A special ice cream bowl with matching spoon filled with treats!

And of course all their beautiful art they have been working on the last weeks! I’m really going to miss these little ones…

END OF YEAR!

SUMMER FUN!

I love Summer! The children definitely feel more free as they run around barefoot exploring in the garden…

We’ve had a lot of discussion around camping this week so we built our own campsite at school… Using what we had in school we managed to create a campfire with fish, picnic basket and river with stepping stones…

And of course campfire and watermelon art to go with our camping!

SUMMER FUN!

SCHOOL PRESENTS

On the last day of school I love to give the children something special to take home with them…In the past I would shop around and buy a number of small presents and wrap them up…As the years went by I started making presents for the children and now it’s something I do every year and try to come up with something different!

As usual I try to fit in waaaay too much towards the end of the year resulting in me up sewing and packaging late at night! But despite this I actually love making the gifts and start getting so excited to send them home with something that I’ve made especially for them!

Last year I made each child a felt playmat with a small bag of goodies to go with it. Girls got a fantasy playmat and boys got a dinosaur play mat…(Unfortunately I forgot to take a pic of dinosaur playmat!)

For the girls I made crowns and wands and the boys a felt fox face mask (no pic of that either I’m afraid!)

A little owl craft to do with mom and dad and a little cuddly owl for bedtime! This years present ideas to follow…!

DIY ROCKET

The space rocket was a huge hit this past week and super simple to make!

Things you need: old tins in different sizes; spray paint; plastic lids in different colours; magnetic strip; glue

I took some old tins in different sizes so they could fit on top of each other and be “stacked”. Gave them a good wash and spray paint in silver. I had a tub of plastic lids that I’ve collected over some time and just glued a piece of magnetic strip to the back.

The children spent ages arranging the colours and tins or just seeing how many colours they could fit onto a rocket!
